How to remove and install the Crankshaft Position Sensor on Jeep Cherokee?

Situated at the left/rear side of the engine block is the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor that is attached to the transmission bellhousing. This is connected using one of three possible configurations; either one bolt, two nuts, or two bolts. To remove the sensor, the first step is to disconnect the sensor pigtail harness. The pigtail harness connects to a connector on the main electrical harness. The connector is attached to a vehicle bracket on the left-front side of the transmission. Remove the applicable mounting hardware depending on the configuration. If the sensor has a two-bolt mount, install it flush against the transmission housing, and tighten the bolts to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.) torque. Use only the specially machined bolts which provide proper spacing to the flywheel. If the sensor utilizes a two-nut mount, install and tighten the nuts to the same torque specification. For a one-bolt mount, a new paper spacer must be installed on the bottom of the sensor. The paper spacer must be used to prevent damage upon the first engine start. The spacer is provided with the new sensors, while the used sensors must be cleaned and a spacer PN05252229 installed. Once you've made sure the sensor is well positioned in the transmission bellhousing, push it against the flywheel or drive plate and tighten the bolt. Apply torque of 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.) to the bolt. Reconnect the sensor pigtail harness to the wiring harness connector in the end.
