Before touching the starter motor, turn off the car, unplug the battery negative cable and raise the vehicle on jack stands. Take out the lower screw that connects the starter motor to the clutch housing or the torque converter housing before lifting and removing the starter motor. Support the starter motor as you lower it, so it does not hang from the back of the car. As you do this, you will be able to take out the connecting nut holding the starter solenoid B(+) terminal stud to the battery positive cable eyelet terminal. Then, pull the positive terminal cable away from the terminal stud on solenoid B+ and remove the connection from the main harness to the starter solenoid. After replacing the starter motor, bring it into place on the clutch or torque converter housing and attach the solenoid terminal wire harness to it. Connect the battery positive cable eyelet terminal to the B(+) stud on the starter solenoid, add the nut and secure it to 11.3 Nm (100 in. lbs.) to support the starter motor. Tighten the two starter motor mounting screws only enough that they hold the part in place, then tighten the lower to 40.7 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and the upper to 47.5 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Next, bring down the vehicle and put the battery negative cable back in place.
