This vital part is fit for many Jeep Commander models; the XK and the 2022 Jeep Meridian being an instance; thus, the part is crucial for those who want to upgrade their engines. The Camshaft is usual built from materials like iron or steel and comes in the different types, the OHV, SOHC, the DOHC camshaft and many more which are crafted in a way to increase specific measures like horsepower among others. With reference to the power output, the camshaft is critical in enhancing the engine operation efficiency and reliability while at the same time increasing the power output level. Additional options include LSA which can be tuned to achieve unique characteristics, satisfying a wide range of customers' expectations. The Camshaft is an important part of the Jeep Commander because aside from improving the efficiency of the automobile it also strengthens the quality of torque as well as the idle speed of the automobile. Jeep Commander Camshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Left Camshaft on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before installing the left camshaft, clean the camshaft journals with oil, place the camshaft so the camshaft dowel is pointing toward the 1 o'clock position and make sure the camshaft is in the middle for quicker work on the bearing caps. Following this, put the camshaft in the cylinder head and fit the camshaft bearing caps, just tightening the retaining bolts by hand as you keep the stamped numbers in order and the stamped arrows pointing toward the front. Seat in the bolts with a 1/2 turn, starting from the middle and moving to the outer cap and tighten them to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Put the camshaft drive gear into the chain and make sure the V6 mark is between the two identified chain links. With the Tool 8428 Camshaft wrench, turn the camshaft until the camshaft sprocket dowel lines up with the slot in the camshaft sprocket and install the sprocket onto the camshaft. Take extra oil off the camshaft sprocket bolt first to ensure it does not get too tight, then tighten the retaining bolt by hand. Once Special Tool 8379 Timing Chain wedge is removed, tighten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt with Special Tool 6958 spanner wrench using adapter pins 8346 to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) and set the cylinder head cover into place.
  • Q: How to Safely Remove the Left Camshaft on Jeep Commander?
    A:
It is important to make sure the Timing Chain is not rotating apart from the left camshaft before you remove it. When you remove the cam sprocket, timing chains or camshaft, use Special Tool 8379, so you don't have to take out the timing chain cover merely to fix any overextension of the tensioner ratchet. The first thing to do is lift off the cylinder cover and align the engine to TDC for cylinder 1, making the V6 camshaft marks line up at 12 o'clock. Mark one of the links in the secondary timing chain on both sides of the V6 mark for the camshaft sprocket when installing the engine. Do not press or bend the camshaft target wheel as this can permanently stop your engine. By turning the bolt counterclockwise without removing it, you will loosen it so that it holds securely to the sprocket. Removing the camshaft sprockets should only happen after securing the timing chain tensioners or else the tensioners may come loose and require you to reset them with the cover removed. Place Special Tool 8379 between the timing strands and hit it to push the chain against the tensioner arm and guide. Place Special Tool 8428 over the snout end of the camshaft before loosening and removing the camshaft sprocket bolt and sprocket. Slightly turn the camshaft 5° clockwise so that the valves are unloaded and you are in the neutral position. Turn each bolting on the outside of the camshaft at first to take off the weight completely from the bearing caps, but do not hit the bearing caps or hammer them. Remember, when the camshaft is taken off, the Rocker Arms can slide down and mark them before you continue. After that, remove both the camshaft bearing caps and the camshaft.
