Jeep Commander Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace an Oil Pan on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Remove the oil pan after first unhooking the negative Battery Cable and then removing the radiator fan and the Intake Manifold. Make sure to install Special Tool #8534 now, but first remove the structural cover. Then, undo the bolts (3) attaching the engine's mounts at the left and right side and lift the engine with Special Tool #8534 to give enough clearance for removing the oil pan. To remove the Oil Filter, let the engine oil drain first and never try to remove the gasket from the oil pan because it stays with the engine. After this, remove the bolts holding the oil pan, pull the oil pan out and remove the bolts securing the oil pump pickup tube.
  • Q: How to Install an Oil Pan on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before anything else, scrub the surface where the oil pan gasket fits onto the bedplate and the oil pan and check the integrated gasket, replacing it if required. Set the new assembly in place and then fit the oil pickup tube. Should the first stud be taken out, install a new stud in position No. 9. Then, put the mounting bolt and nuts in place and tighten the nuts to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Install the oil pan, insert the mounting bolts and torque all of them to 16 Nm (140 in. lbs.) following the order noted in the maintenance manual. Add the dust cover and place the engine on Engine Support 8534B before you lower it into the mounts. Following the removal of Engine Support 8534B, fit the left and right Engine Mount through bolts and tighten both nuts to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Put on the new Intake Manifold, pour oil into the engine and reattach the negative Battery Cable, then turn on the engine to see if any oil leaks.
