Jeep Commander Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Catalytic Converter on a 3.7L Engine on Jeep Commander?
    A:
The first step is to place the steady rest bracket on the front exhaust pipe / catalytic converter assembly for a 3.7L engine. Following that, make sure you put the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly into the car. Stick the bolts and nuts into the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly at the flange of the exhaust manifold, but don't tighten them. Then, connect the nuts at the front exhaust/ catalytic converter assembly to the muffler flange and leave them loose for now. There must be at least 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) between the exhaust pipe and the frame or underbody. Following correct positioning, tighten the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter assembly to exhaust manifold bolts using 26 Nm (19 in. lbs.) of torque and 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) of torque when tightening the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter to the muffler flange. Screw the steady rest bracket bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) and after that, connect the oxygen sensor electrical connections. Replace the crossmember, lower your vehicle and check for leaks in the exhaust. Fix any issues you find.
  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Catalytic Converter on a 3.7L Engine on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Before you can change the catalytic converter on a 3.7L engine, support the car by raising it up first. Coat the bolts and nuts with heat valve lubricant and wait 5 minutes for it to work. After that, take out the transmission crossmember and detach the Oxygen Sensor electrical connections, labeling them so you know where they go back. Take out the steady rest bracket mounting bolt (5) from the transmission, then turn the nuts that secure the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter to the muffler flange. After that, remove the bolts (2) and flanged nuts (1) that hold the Exhaust Manifold in place. Next, take off the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter (3) and then get rid of the steady rest bracket (4) from that assembly.
