  To install the new output shaft seal, position it over the output shaft against the transmission case and use the Seal Installer, part number 8902A to finish the installation. When installing the transfer, case adapter housing, the shim is on the output shaft for 4WD transmissions. To start, the output shaft extension must be installed onto the output shaft and secured by a bolt held at 200 Nm (148 ft.lbs.) torque. Following that, fasten the transfer case adapter housing to the transmission case using bolts set to a torque of 20 Nm (177 in.lbs.) and lastly fit the transfer case in place. Before installing the propeller shaft flange, make sure that the shim is still on the output shaft. For 2WD transmissions install propeller shaft flange onto output shaft with new flange nut and tighten to 200 Nm (148 ft.lbs.) using a 30 mm 12 point socket. Put the Staking Tool 9078 and Driver Handle C-4171 on the output shaft. Rotate the staking tool until the alignment pin engages the output shaft notch. Then press down until the staking pin contacts the output shaft nut flange. Use a suitable hammer to hit the driver handle until the output shaft nut is staked to the output shaft. Install the propeller shaft for 2WD transmissions.

  To take out the output shaft seal as with other seals on this assembly, we will start with 2WD transmissions. This is so that when we remove the propeller shaft flange, the shim will stay on the output shaft. Remove the propeller shaft and lock it to the right. Employ a 30 mm 12 point socket to detach the nut fastening the propeller shaft flange to the output shaft, followed by the removal of the flange. To remove the 4WD transmission, first take out the transfer case. Next, remove the bolts securing the transfer case adapter housing to the transmission case. During this, ensure that the shim remains attached to the output shaft. Subsequently, unbolt the transfer case adapter housing from the transmission case and disconnect the output shaft extension from the output shaft by removing the bolt. Then take out the output shaft extension. Using an appropriate screw and slide hammer, remove the output shaft seal.
