Before replacing the Hydraulic Control Assembly for Antilock Brakes in a gas engine, take out and isolate the negative
Battery Cable from the battery post. Use a brake pedal holding tool to lower the brake pedal far enough that you stop the master cylinder from sending brake fluid to the lines as you take them apart. Once that is done, detach the engine appearance panel, loosen the fasteners at the bottom and top of the engine and unclamp and remove the
Exhaust Heat Shield from the dash. Grab the clamps holding the brake tube carrier to the dash panel and remove them. After that, pull out the 4 primary tubes from the master cylinder at the hydraulic control unit (7), then remove the secondary (1) tube from the same unit and pull out the rest from that unit (2, 3, 5, 6). Carefully remove the screw that keeps the power steering pressure hose routing clamp (2) to the
Exhaust Manifold. Remove the ABM harness connector by depressing the two tabs on the connector cover, lifting and drawing upward on the cover and pulling the connector straight out of the ABM (1). Ease off, but do not take out, the two screws (2) connecting the ICU (1) mounting bracket to the body, then lift and remove the ICU and bracket (1) from the screws (2). When necessary, maneuver the brake tubes and don't bend them, then remove the ICU bracket and ICU with the opening between the A/C lines and the exhaust manifold. Separate the ABM from the HCU by disassembling the control unit that comes with them.
