How to Properly Install a Shift Cable for Gearshift Control on Jeep Compass?

Before you install the gearshift control cable, be sure the gearshift bushings are not greased to avoid them from swelling and splitting. First, put the cable assembly through the small opening in the floor pan and use the grommet plate to secure it to the floor pan. After this, pass the transaxle end of the cable assembly through the firewall and up and over the transaxle on top of the vehicle. First, connect the cables to the little pistons in the transaxle and later install them to the bracket. After that, install the gearshift cables and then the occupant restraint controller. Once the frame is in, fit the shifter, battery tray, battery with a hold-down clamp and end with the air cleaner assembly in place. Attach the battery cables as the last step in installing the system.
