How to Maintain and Repair a Fuel Tank on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Before servicing or repairing the fuel tank, drain the fuel tank and cut off the pressure in the fuel system as it remains pressurized with or without the engine running. Before taking out the fuel pump module, check the fuel rotational direction with the help of the indexing arrow located there. Place Lockring Remover/Installer 9340 in the lockring's outside notches, add a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar to the tool and rotate it counter-clockwise to take the lockring off which will lift the module slightly. Don't bend the float arm when you pull the module out of the fuel tank. Every time you install, remember to put in a new rubber seal. After sliding in the seal and fuel pump, set the locking ring over the module on top of the fuel tank. Keep rotating the module until the embossed arrow is over the center alignment point to keep the float clear of the tank side and guide the fuel-fitting connection to the right side of your vehicle. Attach the Lockring Remover/Installer 9340 to the lockring and use the 1/2 inch drive breaker to tighten the lockring clockwise so all seven notches lock, before you fit the fuel tank again.

How to Service a Fuel Tank and Replace Its Rubber Seal on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

During maintenance of the fuel pump module, you should always fit a fresh rubber gasket (seal). First, apply a new seal (gasket) and put the fuel pump module in the hole in the fuel tank. After that, fit the lockring (5) to the top of the fuel pump module and turn the module until the embossed arrow on the lockring lines up with the center mark to stop the fuel line from hitting the side walls of the tank, aligning the fuel fitting towards the driver's side. Hold the frame and use Lockring Remover/Installer 9340 (3) to secure the lockring, then use a 1/2 inch drive breaker (1) to tighten it clockwise until the seven notches are fitted. After that, secure the fuel tank into place.
