For muffler service or repairs, raise and support the vehicle before you work on it. Cover all the bolts and nuts with heat valve oil and let them stay that way for 5 minutes. After loosening the clamp on the catalytic converter to muffler joint, use a torch to make the metal at this point red as coals. When the metal is cherry red, take off the end part of the catalytic converter, then take away the tailpipe from the tailpipe hanger. Should the tailpipe hanger assembly come detached, put it back on the frame and tighten everything to 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.) torque. Attach the tailpipe and muffler to the tailpipe bracket, then set up the muffler on the connector toward the tailpipe, leaving some space between the floor pan and the muffler. Set up the exhaust clamp and turn the nuts down to a torque of 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Lastly, lower the vehicle, start it, inspect the exhaust system and adjust the vehicle's alignment if it's contacting the body.
