How to Install an EGR Valve on a 3.7L Engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Start by cleaning the gasket spot where the EGR valve base meets the back of the left cylinder head and also clean the EGR tube where it will be attached to the valve. After that, put a new gasket between the EGR valve and the cylinder head, then attach the EGR valve by screwing it onto the cylinder head and holding it in place with two bolts, tightening them so that 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.) shows on the torque wrench. Once that's done, insert a new gasket into the gap between the EGR tube flange and EGR valve assembly, attach the EGR tube to the side of the EGR valve and ensure the end of the tube is inserted into the intake manifold. Use two bolts to attach the tube and torque them to 11 Nm or 8.5 ft. lbs. First link the electrical connector to the EGR valve solenoid at the top and then restore the negative battery cable. With that, use a diagnostic scan tool to delete any DTC's you have found.

Center the tube that measures transmission fluid level (2), install both bolts in the transmission pan (1) and tighten each to 9 Nm (80 in. lbs.). Drop the vehicle to the ground and put the EGR valve (1) electrical connector (2) in place. Attach the ignition wire harness tray (1) to the valve cover studs and link the right bank ignition wires (from cylinders 1, 3 and 5) to the appropriate spark plugs. Afterward, attach the upper intake manifold and the EGR tube, hook up the negative battery cable and screw the nut down to 5 Nm (45 in. lbs.).
