- Q: How to Service an Exhaust Pipe on a 2.4L Engine on Jeep Wrangler?A:You should first be sure the exhaust system is cool before starting to work on the 2.4L engine, especially because the Catalytic Converter heats up fast. Always keep your fuels away from the flames of your torch. Lift the car and cover the studs and nuts in Mopar rust penetrant, letting the product work for at least 5 minutes. Extract the Oxygen Sensors from the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter, separate the engine Exhaust Manifold from the exhaust pipe and remove the catalytic converter from its flange retaining nuts. Move the exhaust pipe toward the transmission support until the hanger releases. Once that happens, remove both the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter from under the vehicle. While you install, fit the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter into the car again, insert the hanger into the transmitter support and join the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold loosely. Place the flange of the muffler where the catalytic converter flange should be; put in the retaining bolts and nuts, but only hand-tighten them for now. Check that the exhaust system is aligned at minimum distance of 25 mm between elbows and tighten the retaining nuts on the muffler to catalytic converter pipe to 28.5 Nm and the nuts on the exhaust pipe to the manifold should be tightened to 31 Nm. After mounting the sensors in the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter, drop the vehicle, start it and check for leaks.
- Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Exhaust Pipe on Jeep Wrangler?A:Make sure the exhaust system is cool before starting any servicing or repairs, as the Catalytic Converter may become quite hot and cause burns nearby. Be sure to keep torches at a safe distance from your fuel lines. First, elevate the vehicle so the bolts will be accessible, then apply Mopar rust penetrant to all the studs and nuts and give it five minutes to penetrate. Detach all six oxygen fuel sensors from the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter, remove the exhaust pipe from the engine's Exhaust Manifold and take out the catalytic converter using the retaining nuts. After sliding the exhaust pipe up, take the hanger off its support and remove both the pipe and the catalytic converter out of the car. First, mount the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter in place using the rubber brackets given, place the hanger which fits over the transmission support into the hole and secure the exhaust pipe onto the exhaust manifold using snap rings but do not tighten the bolts just yet. Place the muffler flange so it lines up with the catalytic converter flange, install the retaining bolts and nuts, but leave them unlocked for now. Check that there is at least 25 mm (1 inch) of clearance between the exhaust and attach it with the muffler to catalytic converter flange bolts to 28.5 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) and the exhaust pipes to the manifold bolts to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). After that, fit the Oxygen Sensors into the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter, lift the vehicle, start it up and make sure there are no leaks.
