Do not turn on any service on vehicles with air bags until you have removed and isolated the battery negative cable for two minutes to ensure there is no accidental air bag deployment and injury. Before opening the
Steering Column opening, disconnect the battery's negative cable. If it matters, pull the tilt steering column up to reach the top position. Take out the two screws that join the steering column opening cover to the instrument panel support body. Use a wide flat-bladed removal tool to prive up the cover just above the steering wheel, on both sides, to remove the clips holding the cover on. If you are equipped, pull the cover top downwards to expose and remove the headlamp leveling wire connector. Raise the top part of the cover away from you which will free the hinge hook shapes from the pins under the dash. During installation, align the steering column opening cover with the instrument panel and insert the hinge hook formations into the hinge pins. If there is a top, fold it up so you can reconnect the headlamp leveling switch's wire harness. Open the top edge of the cover and guide the retainers in the instrument panel into the same receptacles and push down the cover as you snap it onto each holder. After that, fix the two screws attaching the cover to the panel framework, tightening them to 2 N.m (20 in. lbs.) and attach the negative
Battery Cable again.
