- Q: How to Maintain and Fix Coil Springs on 2000 Dodge Dakota?A: Start by raising and supporting the car and after that remove the wheel and tire assembly before continuing. Pull the stabilizer bar link off the lower suspension arm and come out the shock absorber. Put Spring Compressor DD-1278 through the lower arm, coil spring and upper mounting hole, turn the lower nut and compress the spring. After that, take out the lower ball joint nut and split the ball joint from the knuckle with Remover C-4150A. With the nut on the lower end of the spring compressor loose, take out the tool and use one hand to pull down the lower suspension arm, taking out the spring. Tape the isolator pad to the upper part of the coil spring and put the spring in the lower suspension arm pocket, checking that it is correctly seated. Pass DD-1278 compressor tool through the lower arm and shock hole and tighten the nut on the tool to squeeze the coil spring. Water pump bearing kit buyers should insert the lower ball joint into the knuckle, torque the nut to 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.) and secure it with a cotter pin. Take out the spring compressor, place the stabilizer bar link to the lower suspension arm and secure it with a nut turned to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Insert the shock absorber, then the wheel and tire and remove the support to bring everything down.
