2001 Dodge Dakota Coil Springs Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: To work on the coil spring, lift and support your car, unbolt the wheel and tire and remove them from the suspension. Take the stabilizer bar link out first and then the shock. Place the coil-style compression tool D-D-1278 underneath the lower arm, insert it into the spring and the upper mounting hole and tighten the lower nut to compress the coil spring. After that, take out the nut at the lower ball joint and use Remover C-4150A to take the ball joint off the knuckle. Turn the lower bolt of the spring compressor to release stress in the spring, remove the tool and gently pull down the lower suspension arm to remove the spring. Begin by taping the pad to the spring's upper side and set the spring into the lower suspension arm pocket. Reinsert Spring Compressor DD-1278 into the lower suspension link and the hole of the upper shock, fastening the tool nut to lower the coil spring. Push the lower ball joint into the knuckle, loop the cotter pin through the nut and tighten the nut to 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.). Detach the spring compressor tool, join the stabilizer bar link to the lower suspension arm and tighten the nut by 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). After everything, attach the shock absorber, the wheel and tire, take off the support and lower the vehicle.
