2000 Dodge Dakota Axle Shaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Axle Shaft Seal and Wheel Bearing on 2000 Dodge Dakota?
A: First take out the axle shaft, then use the small pry bar to get the axle shaft seal out from the end of the axle shaft tube. Both the seal and the bearing can be removed together using the special tool. After that, extract the axle tubes from the axle shaft using Removal Tool C-4660-A and check the tube bore for any rough spots. Remove them if you find them. Change the axle shaft seal every time you reinstall it, don't try to reuse the old one. Wipe out the axle shaft tube bore which leads into the differential and then use Installer 5063 and Handle C-4171 to place the axle shaft bearing in place. Upon inspection, replace the axle shield seal using Installer 8402 and Handle C-4171 and then install the axle shaft again.
