2000 Dodge Durango Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair an Alternator on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: For safe service or repair of the alternator, first detach the negative battery cable to avoid accidental damage to your electrical system. After removing the drive belt, take out both the pivot and mounting bolts/nut to reach the electrical connectors. Working at the generator's rear, unscrew the nut that holds the B+ terminal and disconnect it. Then, push the connector tab on the field wire and lift it from the generator, then take the generator out of the car. To install, line up the generator with the engine and insert its field wire end into the back of the generator. Join the generator and terminal together by threading the nut on the mounting stud until it reaches 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.) torque. Attach GEN14-10317-01 generator fasteners and tighten the generator mounting bolt to a torque of 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and the generator pivot bolt/nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Avoid trying to move the belt over a pulley rim with a screwdriver to protect the belt's synthetic fiber and ensure the serpentine accessory belt goes in the correct path to stop overheating the engine. Secure the generator drive belt, snap the cable protector cover onto the B+ stud if you have one and reattach the negative battery cable.
