2000 Dodge Durango Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should You Prepare for Fuel Rail Assembly Servicing on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: Be sure to let the fuel system pressure out before working with the fuel rail assembly, because pressure is present even when the engine is not running. Disconnect the negative cable from your battery and remove the air cleaner to start the job. Do the fuel pressure release first, then take the throttle body out of the intake manifold. Should your vehicle have an air conditioning system, delete the A-shaped A/C compressor-to-intake manifold support bracket after unscrewing the three bolts from it. Press the red slider towards the fuel injector, press the clamping tab and take out the electrical connector from each of the 8 fuel injectors. Each position of the engine injectors can be located through special tagging on the wiring harness. Remove the clip holding the fuel tube to the fuel rail and take away the last screws at the side of the fuel rail. Make sure to clean the dirt and debris from all the fuel injectors at the intake manifold. While moving the engine assembly, carefully rock each fuel rail and pull both ends until every injector is free from the intake manifold. Once done, remove them both together. Get rid of the clips connecting the injectors to the fuel rail. Before installing, use a very small amount of clean engine oil on the O-ring of every fuel injector. Assemble the fuel rail in place on the intake manifold with the injectors installing them using clips and do so without damaging the O-ring. Lower both fuel rails until the injectors fit securely in their places. Fasten the mounting bolts for the fuel rail, hook up the electric connector to the intake manifold's air temperature sensor and lock all fuel injector connectors. If required, place the A/C support bracket again. Next, fit the throttle body into the intake manifold. Line up the fuel tube on the side of the fuel rail, install the air cleaner and link the battery cable as well. Turn on the engine and keep a watch for signs of leaks.
