2000 Dodge Durango Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Lash Adjuster on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: Before attempting to fix or maintain the lifter/lash adjuster, take the air cleaner module out first, then the air inlet hose, then lift the cylinder head cover, remove the rocker assembly and push rods-don't forget to flag the location of each push rod. After that, remove the intake manifold, yoke retainer and the aligning yokes. Install the Hydraulic Tappet Remover/Installer Tool C-4129-A into the opening in the cylinder head and push it down until it is seat in the tappet head. Grab the tappet at its top and twist it out, marking it as you pull it, so each tappet can be matched with the same one for reinstallation. If you find that a bore in the cylinder block is scored, scuffed or shows signs of sticking, replace it with an oversize tappet after widening it. Apply some oil to the tappets and put the push rods back where they belong, rotating the tappets so that the hole for the oil supply opens away from the crankshaft. Put in the aligning yokes with the Arrow facing the camshaft and then add the yoke retainer, tighten all bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) and replace the intake manifold. Put the push rods and rocker arm into their proper places, then the cylinder cover and then fit the air cleaner assembly along with the air inlet hose. After starting the engine, don't run it at full power until the hydraulic tappets are well oiled and their noise is reduced.
