2001 Dodge Durango Lash Adjuster Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Lash Adjuster on 2001 Dodge Durango?
A: Before servicing or repairing the lifter and lash adjuster, get rid of the air cleaner assembly, as well as the air inlet hose and cylinder head cover. Take out both the rocker assembly and the push rods and note their original places so you will know where to install them. After removing the intake manifold, take the yoke retainer and aligning yokes off. With the Hydraulic Tappet Remover/Installer Tool C-4129-A, push it through the hole in the cylinder head, so that it seats properly into the tappet head. Draw out each tappet by turning it, checking their positions to ensure they will fit correctly when replaces. If any part of the cylinder block's tappet bore or bore is scored, scuffed or sticks, remove both the tappet and the oversize plug to open the bore larger and fit new oversize tappets. After removing the tappets, clean them using a suitable solvent, rinse them in hot water and wipe them dry with a shop rag or use air flow from a compressor. To install, apply Mopar Engine Oil Supplement or a similar oil to the tappets, then place them and the push rods in their original places, so the oil feed hole is facing up. Place the narrower side of the yokes on the camshaft side using Arrow mark, push in the retainer and bolt them firmly using 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) of torque. Put on the intake manifold, push rods, rocker arms and cylinder head cover, followed by the assembly for the air cleaner and air inlet hose. Just after starting, leave the engine idling until the power unit has reached normal operating temperature and do not rev the engine above fast idle so long as there are still noisy tappets, since this can injure the valve mechanism.
