How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Before servicing the crankshaft main bearing seal, take out the transaxle and the drive plate. Carefully fit the flat blade of your 3/16 tool between the seal dust lip and the metal crankshaft case, pry the seal out with the tool angled against the metal, with the blade not touching the seal surface, but only the metal chamfer on the crankshaft. If the crankshaft's edge has scratches, use 400 grit sandpaper to get rid of them so the new seal is not likely to be damaged during installation. Then, put Special Tool 6926-1 onto the crankshaft and line up the seal on the pilot. Place the Special Tool 6926-2 Installer on the bottom C-4171 Handle and press the seal into the retainer housing. When finished, install the drive plate again, tightening each bolt to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.) and then fasten the transaxle back in place.
