2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Crankshaft Seal on 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan?
    A: Before servicing the front crankshaft seal, pull the negative cable from the battery and hoist the vehicle. After removing the right wheel, remove both the right inner splash shield and the accessory drive belt, together with the crankshaft damper. Fix Special Tool 6341A onto the crankshaft nose and screw it into the cover seal until it locks in place, making sure not to upset the cover seal. Turn the forcing screw until its bottom section clears the cover and the oil seal comes free. During installation, set Special Tool C-4992-2 Guide on the crankshaft nose and then fit the new seal on top of the guide with the seal springs facing the engine cover. Place the seal in the cover and use Special Tool C-4992-1 to install it flush with the cover. Replace the crankshaft damper, accessory drive belt, inner splash shield and right front wheel onto the car. Afterward, lower the vehicle and attach the negative cable to the battery once again.
