2000 Dodge Neon Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Tie Rod End on 2000 Dodge Neon?
A: Raise the vehicle and take the tire and wheel off before reaching the outer tie rod end. Relax the tie rod jam nut and move the core up the inner tie rod to unwind the collar from the outer tie rod end, before removing it. Then, hold the tie rod stud in place and loose and remove the nut that links the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle with a wrench. Use the Remover and Special Tool MB991113 to pull the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle, remove the heat shield and unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod. To install, push the inner tie rod, with the jam nut already on, through the collar to its place on the outer tie rod. Lay the collar over the end of the outer tie rod and insert the jam nut down to hold it while you do not fully tighten it yet. Line up the holes and tangs on the tie rod heat shield and the steering arm of the knuckle. Put the outer tie rod end on the steering knuckle and, without moving the stud, fasten the nut onto it. After that, tighten the nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) using a crowfoot wrench with a torque wrench, put in the tire and wheel assembly, lower the vehicle and get the front toe adjusted.
