Raise the car, take off the tire and wheel and then you can deal with the tie rod outer. Relax the jam nut, pull the tie rod downward inside the wheel and move the collar away from the outer end as you remove it. Afterward, you should remove the stud nut by first holding the stud still and then turning the wrench to loosen the shaft. Release both of the outer tie rods from the
Steering Knuckle with Remover, Special Tool MB991113 and then take out the tie rod heat shield. Take the outer tie rod off the inner tie rod. Before installation, fix the jam nut to the inner side of the tie rod; let the collar lie flat against the nut and face the outer tie rod end. Place the collar at the end of the outer tie rod as the inner tie rod goes through it. Put the jam nut on top of the arm, just to hold the collar in position and do not tighten it yet. Secure the tie rod heat shield to the knuckle by fitting the holes and tangs into their proper locations. Attach the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle, then slowly put the attaching nut onto the stud, while at the same time holding the stud steady, secure the nut. Secure the nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) by turning the nut with a crowfoot wrench and a torque wrench. Put the tire and wheel back in place, tighten the wheel nut until it says 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), lower your car and set the toe alignment on the front end.
