2000 Dodge Neon Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Return Hose on 2000 Dodge Neon?
A: Before you start on the return hose, remove as much fluid as possible from the reservoir. Lift the vehicle to the correct height as required in the vehicle's maintenance guide. Should the car have a power steering fluid cooler, remove its clamp from the return hose and slide the hose off the cooler tube. If your vehicle doesn't have a cooler, take out the hose clamp on the power steering gear's outlet port at the rear. After that, slide the hose out and pull it loose from the C-clamps on the routing clips at the front. Support the vehicle so the right engine mount lowers and then get rid of the housing bolt and move the hose from the routing clip on the right. After that, remove the hose clamp from the power steering reservoir, slide the hose away from the fitting on the reservoir and slide the return hose out from the engine compartment area. On one end of the hose, secure a hose clamp with space around the reservoir's fitting. Using the return hose, connect the pump with the reservoir fitting and route the rest up the car's right side of the engine. Spread the hose clamp and screw the end to the fitting on the fluid reservoir. Attach the return hose in the routing clip and secure it to the right engine mount by tightening the clip bolt to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). When you lift the vehicle again, keep the hoses well away from the exhaust system and other objects that might harm them. Wipe the open part of the hose and the fitting on the power steering gear or cooler with a lint-free towel. Secure a hose clamp to the end of the hose before you make sure it isn't hitting any part of the fitting. With a cooler underneath you, attach the hose to the cooler tube and clamp it in place past the bead. In case a cooler is not present, put the hose over the steel fitting at the steering gear port, secure the clamp and join the hose to the C-clamps on the routing clips. Raise the vehicle and then perform Initial Operation of the Power Steering Pump. After this, check all hose joints for leaks.
