2000 Dodge Neon Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Water Pump on 2000 Dodge Neon?
A: Start by jacking up the vehicle, then raise it on a hoist and take out the right inner splash shield. After that, eliminate the accessory drive belts and drain the coolant from the vehicle. Take out the bolts that keep the power steering pump assembled, but don't separate the lines yet. After that, take out the upper and lower torque isolator struts, hold up the engine from the bottom and remove the bolt and bracket for the right engine mount. Take out the timing belt and tensioner, after which remove the camshaft sprocket and the rear timing belt cover. Disconnect the screws that connect the pump to the engine and remove the pump. Use Mopar Dielectric Grease on the O-ring before inserting a new O-ring into the water pump body O-ring groove so it does not come out and cause a leak. Screw the pump body onto the block until they are attached and tighten the screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.). Insert a pressure tester into the cooling system and raise the pressure to 15 psi, follow by checking for any water leakage at the pump shaft seal and on the O-ring. Start with the rear timing belt cover, next fit the camshaft sprocket and then install the timing belt tensioner and belt. Set the engine mount bracket in its right place, put in the upper and lower torque isolator struts and add coolant into the cooling system. After that, attach the accessory drive belts and insert the DRB scan tool into the data link connector found near the steering column in the passenger's side, set the ignition switch to the run position, access the "miscellaneous" screen, choose "re-learn cam/crank" option and proceed with the steps on the DRB screen.
