2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Crankshaft on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Before brothers, cutters and water mashineers can get to the crankshaft, the oil pan must be removed and the oil pump drawn out from behind the main bearing cap. Notice where the bearing caps are before removing them and take them out with the bearings as you go along. Pull the crankshaft out of the engine and throw away the rear and front oil seals. For putting on the seal, moisten the new seal's lips with engine oil and mount the white paint side of the new rear bearing oil seal facing toward the rear. Place the crankshaft in the cylinder block, gently oil the new rear bearing seal lip and insert the oil seal with the white paint toward the rear in the bearing cap. After applying a drop of Loctite 518 to the sides of the rear main bearing cap, connect the cap to the cylinder block with its slot, alignment dowel and bolts aligned and then remove any extra sealant. Clean as well as oil all cap bolts, set all main bearing caps in place and tighten each cap bolt with an alternating pattern until it reaches 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs. torque). Reassemble the oil pump and use Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or an alternative, on the bearing cap-to-block connection, making certain a little bit squeezes out and wipe away extra from the oil pan gasket groove. Place the new oil seal on the front crankshaft and straightaway fit the oil pan back in.
