2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Van A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the suction and discharge A/C hoses in the HVAC system on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Open every line before you attach them and be sure to make bends in the refrigerant plumbing between ten and 30 times the diameter of the line, to prevent loss of capacity. Take out the negative battery cable first and collect the refrigerant from your vehicle. Take out the wire harness connector from the high pressure cut-off switch and remove the radiator grille. Then, loosen the screw that links the block fitting on the discharge line to the condenser and remove the fitting, covering all open refrigerant connection fittings with plugs or tape. Take out the suction line jumper's flare nut and tape over or plug up the joints where fuel was released. Screw out the refrigerant line manifold from the compressor and then use plugs or tape to cover the open lines. Disconnect the suction and discharge line assembly and then, with the vehicle not running, take off the tape or plugs from the two sides of the refrigerant pipe, install the manifold to the refrigerant pipe of the compressor and tighten the screw into place with a torque readout of 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Get rid of the suction line and jumper plugs, flare the other end of the jumper and fasten it onto the line slug's nut by turning 47 Nm (420 in. lbs.). Tap the tape or plugs loose on the discharge line block fitting and condenser, join the liquid line to the condenser inlet and fasten the connection with a screw tightened to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Set the radiator grille in place, plug the end of the wire harness connector into the high pressure cut-off switch, hook back the battery negative cable, evacuate the refrigerant and finish by charging it.
