2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the A/C Hose (suction line) on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Before changing the suction hose/line, take the negative cable from the battery fuse and pull the low pressure cut-off switch from its spot on the suction line jumper. Take out the refrigerant from the system, remove the flare nut on the suction line from its threaded fitting on the jumper and seal any released parts' lines that are still open with suitable plugs or tape. In case there's a rear heater-A/C unit, pull the flare nut off the underbody suction line from the threaded fitting and then use tape or plugs to cover up the open ends of the suction line fittings. Unscrew the plumbed liquid line from the liquid line extension, then make sure all cut refrigerant line fittings are covered with plugs or tape. First, remove the screw holding the filter-drier to its mounting bracket and, next, remove and separate the suction line jumper fitting from the filter-drier, installing plugs or tape over all open lines. Loosen the screw holding the block fitting of the suction line jumper to the expansion valve and take out the fitting, use tape or plugs to cover all open refrigerant lines in your engine compartment, then carefully remove the suction line jumper. To install, uncover the tape or shut off valves on the suction line jumper and the expansion valve, place the jumper block fitting onto the expansion valve and install it with one screw, tightening it to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.) Take off the tape or plugs from the suction line jumper block fitting and the outlet of the filter-drier, place the filter-drier outlet at the suction line fitting and link them with a screw tightened to 13.5 Nm (120 in. lbs.). Tighten the screw that fastens the filter-drier to its positioning bracket to 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.). If you have a rear heater-A/C unit, take off the tape or plugs from the refrigerant lines under the vehicle, connect the flare nut on the main liquid line to the threaded fitting on the extension liquid line and tighten the connection to 27 Newtons (244 inch-pounds). Release the tape or plugs from the sides of the underbody plumbing suction line and the suction line jumper, attach the flare nut on the suction line to the fitting from the underbody plumbing system and fasten it at 47 Nm (420 in. lbs.). Replace the tape or plugs from the suction line ending and the suction line jumper parts, insert the suction line flare nut into the threaded fitting on the jumper and secure the pair with 47 Nm (420 in. lbs.) of force. Fit the low pressure cut-off switch on to the fitting of the suction line jumper, connect the battery negative cable, evacuate everything in the system and then refill it with refrigerant.
