2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Crankshaft on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: The crankshaft should not be removed until the transmission is out of the vehicle, if that's the situation. After that, unfasten the oil pan and the oil pump on the rear main bearing cap and then remove the vibration damper and timing chain cover. Take off the caps from the rod bearings and the bearings themselves and use a jack to hold up the crankshaft so it doesn't drop and get damaged. After that, open the main bearing caps and bearings individually and carefully remove the whole assembly to take out the crankshaft from the block. Take away the rear and front crankshaft oil seals. Before you use Mopar Gasket Maker, first remove all Gasket Maker residue and sealant from the cylinder block and rear cap mating surface. Put a little automotive grease on the new rear oil seal lips and set the seal in place as you did before, with the white stripe now at the rear of the engine. Set the crankshaft inside the cylinder block, apply a little oil on the white inner edge of the lower rear bearing seal and push it into place on the bearing cap at the rear side of the engine. Apply just 5 mm of Mopar Gasket Maker to each side of the rear main bearing cap, making sure it doesn't touch the rubber seal and immediately install the bearing cap onto the cylinder block. Line up the bearing cap by using the cap slot, alignment dowel and bolts and limit the rear cap's strikes to no more than two for correct seat.. Make the bolts on the bearing caps shiny, install all the main bearing caps and apply alternating 115 Nm torque to each cap bolt. Lift the oil pump, timing chain cover and vibration damper into their original places. Attach the connecting rods to the crankshaft, put the bearing caps on top of them and tighten the nuts to 61 Nm. Place Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant around the bearing cap and in the joint to prevent leakage. Then allow a little of the sealant to pass into the oil seal groove and wipe off any extra. Next, add the new front crankshaft oil seal, the oil pan and if you have one, put back the transmission.
