2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: Can You Replace the Crankshaft Seal Without Removing the Timing Chain Cover on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Unhook the battery's negative cable and take out the engine's vibration damper before continuing. Ensure the front oil seal is aligned to the crankshaft using the seal installation/alignment tool 6635; there should be only a tiny gap where they touch. If the strap does not fit, the cover must be taken off and installed correctly. Take care not to harm the crankshaft seal bore of the cover as you gently pull the oil seal out of the housing. Slide the smaller diameter of the oil seal into the groove of Front Oil Seal Installation Tool 6635. Place the seal and the tool over the middle of the crankshaft and bolt down the damper to hold the seal in place. Afterward, take out the vibration damper bolt and the installation tool, inspect the seal on the vibration damper, attach the vibration damper and replace the negative cable at the battery.
