2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Start the oil pan service by detaching the negative battery cable and pulling out the engine oil dipstick. Lift up the car, empty the engine oil and remove the exhaust pipe as well as the left engine to transmission strut. Remove the through-bolt holding the right side engine support bracket cushion and adjust the engine so it moves up, then pull the oil pan away and out of the car. Eliminate the one-piece gasket and scrub the surfaces of the engine block and pan where the gasket was. Extra sealant film should be removed from the rear main cap oil pan gasket groove, but not from the slots inside the rear main cap and trim any sealant from inside the engine. Trim the heads from four 5/16 x 1 1/2 inch bolts and drill a hole through the tops so the dowels fit into place quickly. Place the dowels into the cylinder block and add a dot of Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or another equivalent to the sides of the cap and cylinder block. Put the gasket on the dowels and slip it over the block, then fit the oil pan, also on the dowels, over the gasket. Secure the oil pan with the first bolts to 24 Nm (215 in. lbs.) torque and detach the dowels before placing the remaining bolts. Click here for the full oil pan bolt installation instructions. Carefully set the engine inside the support cushion brackets and fasten the thru bolt nut to the suggested tightness. Once you have installed the drain plug, tighten it to 34 Nm or 25 ft. lbs. and then attach both the engine to transmission strut and exhaust pipe. Drive the car lower, place the dipstick back into its hole, join the negative cable to the battery and put oil into the crankcase.
