2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Maintain a Fuel Rail Assembly on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Fuel pressure stays high all the time, even when the engine isn't running, so the fuel rail assembly should be released of pressure before any service work is done. Start by taking off the negative battery cable at the battery and at the air cleaner. After that, discharge any fuel pressure and take out the throttle body from the intake manifold. If air conditioning is installed, take out the three bolts from the A-shaped bracket to remove it from the A/C compressor to intake manifold. Then, push the red slider further away from the fuel injector, push down the tab and take off the connector. The factory wiring harness will have injector tags, but if not, note the position of the relevant wiring while you work. At the side of the fuel rail, cut off the fuel tube and take out the remaining fuel rail bolts too. Use very little force to gently rock and pull at the left and right fuel rails until the injectors are released from the intake manifold and then remove the whole assembly. Remove the clips connected from the injectors to the fuel rail. While installing, put a tiny coat of engine oil on each fuel injector O-ring first, put the injectors and clips onto the fuel rail and clip them into place. Fit the fuel rail/fuel injector assembly to the injector openings on the manifold, guiding every injector in correctly so the O-ring is not harmed. Lower the right and left fuel rails and keep lowering them until the injectors are all seated correctly. Set the fuel rail mounting bolts, plug the electrical connector into the intake manifold air temperature sensor and fix all the electrical connectors at the fuel injectors, making sure they are secure. Place the A/C support bracket back on if fitted and next install the throttle body on the intake manifold. At this step, fit the tube from the fuel rail on top, reattach the air cleaner and hook the battery wire. After preparation, switch on the engine and make sure there are no leaks.
