2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Disconnect the battery negative cable as the very first step to work on the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley. The next step is to remove the cooling system fan, the cooling fan shroud and then take out the accessory drive belt. After that, remove the vibration damper bolt and the accompanying washer from the crankshaft. Slide Special Tool 8513 into the crankshaft and continue by attaching Special Tool 1026 Three Jaw Puller to the vibration damper. Make sure to remove all contaminants around the crankshaft nose and in the bore of the vibration damper during installation to avoid serious problems. Attach the vibration damper to the crankshaft, then use the installing tool from Set C-3688 to press the damper tightly onto the shaft. Place the crankshaft bolt and washer onto the engine, tighten the bolt to 244 Nm (180 ft. lbs.) torque. Slip the new accessory drive belt on and place the fan shroud, attaching everything with the bolts and torquing the retainer bolts to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.). After that, attach the cooling fan and put back the battery negative cable.
