2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Axle Shaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Axle Shaft Seal and Bearing on a 9-1/4 LD Axle on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: You should take out the axle shaft first in order to service the 9-1/4 LD axle seal and bearing. After that, remove the seal at the end of the axle tube using a small pry bar. The combination seal and bearing can be removed using a bearing removal tool at the same time. After that, remove the axle shaft bearing from the axle tube using the Bearing Removal Tool Set 6310 and Adapter Foot 6310-9. Choose to replace the old axle shaft seal with a brand new one when you install your car. Remove all signs of sealer and smoothen rough spots inside the axle tube bore. Use the Installer C-4198 and the Handle C-4171 and have the bearing part number face outside while making sure the bearing is straight and fits tightly against the axle tube. Place a new axle seal on the axle using both your Installer C-4076-B and Handle C-4735-1, while making sure the tool touches the axle tube for the right depth of the seal. Slather axle lubricant along the sides of the seal hole to protect it as you reattach the axle shaft.
