2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Coil Springs Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs in an Independent Front Suspension on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: When servicing or repairing a coil spring in independent front suspension, first raise and center the car, then eliminate the wheel and tire assembly. After that, separate the brake caliper assembly from the rotor. Take out the nut and cotter pin from the tie rod and use Puller C-3894-A to break apart the tie rod end and the steering knuckle. Take out the stabilizer bar link from where it holds the lower arm, then place a jack in front of the shock mount to support that end of the lower arm. After removing the cotter pin and nut from the lower ball joint, use Remover C-4150A to dismantle the ball joint. After removing the lower shock bolt from the suspension arm, lower the whole assembly and jack to ease the tension, then take the spring and rubber isolator off. During installation, put the rubber isolator on the spring and set the spring in the upper spring seat. After you lift the lower suspension arm with the jack, move the spring into its mount in the lower arm. Put in the lower shock bolt and tighten it as mentioned on your owner's manual. Join the steering knuckle to the lower ball joint, tighten the 129 Nm or 136 Nm (95 ft. lbs). or 110 ft. lbs.) lower ball joint nut and put on the lower ball joint cotter pin. Put back the stabilizer bar link onto the lower suspension arm, utilizing a grommet, retainer and nut tightened to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). Join the tie rod end to the steering knuckle, secure with a 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) torque and use a cotter pin to lock the assembly. After removing the rotor and caliper, reinstall them and then reattach the wheel and tire. After that, remove the support and lower the car to the ground.
