2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Oil Pan on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Before anything else, take out the negative cable from the battery and then unscrew the engine oil dipstick. Lift the car up and empty the engine oil before you take out the exhaust pipe and left engine to transmission strut. Recess the nut under the right side engine support bracket cushion thru-bolt and gently lift the motor. With this done, you should be able to remove the oil pan by sliding it backward and out. Remove the one-piece gasket and then clean the surfaces where the block and pan gasket will sit. Trim or remove extra sealant film from around the gasket, but do not disturb or remove sealant that is inside the rear main cap slots and trim any placed sealant in the engine as required. Use 5/16 x 1 1/2 inch bolts to form four dowels, remove their heads, add a notch at the top for a screwdriver and set the dowels into your cylinder block. Apply some Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or something similar, to the slotted corner of the cap and the cylinder block, then place the one-piece gasket over the dowels and set it on the block. Place the oil pan onto the dowels and gasket, put in the oil pan bolts and tighten them to 24 Nm (215 in. lbs.). After removing the dowels, bolt on the remaining bolts, tightening them to the same specifications. Set the engines down onto the support cushion brackets and tighten the thru bolt nut to the correct torque. After installing the drain plug and tightening to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.), reinstall the engine to its connection on the transmission and exhaust. Let the vehicle sit on the ground, insert the dipstick, hook the negative battery cable back and add enough oil to the crankcase as needed.
