2000 Dodge Stratus Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Install a Deployed Driver Air Bag Module on 2000 Dodge Stratus?
A: Whenever you remove a Driver air bag Module, you should put on rubber gloves, eye protection and long sleeves due to the irritants found on its surface. First, unconnect and insulate the negative cable of the remote battery. After that, loosen the screws holding the speed control switch on the back of the steering wheel, pull the switch out and cut off any connected wires. Remove the bolts attaching the Driver air bag Module to the steering wheel and lift the module, then pull up on the secondary latch and use the grips on the connector to disconnect the wire from the back of the module without touching the wires or using metal tools. Take the horn wire off the air bag mounting bracket and unhook the speed control wires from the guides. Any time you replace a Driver air bag Module, always change the Clock Spring as well. When installing, connect the horn wire to the Driver air bag Module mounting bracket and join the Driver air bag Module connector to the back of the module in the proper spot by pressing straight in on the plug and pushing the secondary latch for a tight connection, be sure to avoid touching the wires. Put in the two module bolts and tighten them to between 9 and 10 Nm (80 and 90 in. lbs.) torque. Afterward, attach the wire connectors to the speed control switches, set up the switches and secure them with screws between 6 and 24 in lbs. After that, run the air bag System Test and then reconnect the negative remote battery cable.
