2000 Dodge Stratus Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Evaluate the Condition of a Brake Caliper Lining on 2000 Dodge Stratus?
A: Start by checking the outside of the rear disc brake caliper lining; if this doesn't give you enough information, remove both the wheel and tire and also the calipers for a more thorough inspection. After that, take off the rear disc brake pads and check the combined thinness of the brake pad and lining on each pad. Once the disc thickness is about 7.0 mm (9/32 inch), both sets of brake pads must be replaced at the same time and both rear wheel sets should be changed when the brake pads are swapped. Should no replacement be required, place each assembly back in its original position. When using a caliper to inspect, see if there are any brake fluid leaks on the boot or inboard lining and also if the dust boot is undamaged, not brittle and has no ruptures. Should any damage or leaks be noticed, separate the caliper assembly to add a new seal, boot and piston if the one you have is scored. Also, check the dust boots over the guide pins and replace them anytime they are worn, dry or brittle.
