2000 Dodge Stratus Brake Drum Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Brake Drum on 2000 Dodge Stratus?
A: Check the warnings and caution parties about brakes and their service, before attempting to remove the brake drum. A worn ridge in the brake drums, caused by high mileage, may stop you from removing the brake shoes. To get further clearance, remove the rubber plug from the brake support plate, stick a screwdriver through the automatic adjuster hole in the back of the brake support plate, engage the screwdriver with the teeth on the adjuster mechanism quadrant and rotate the quadrant so that the teeth move towards the front end of the vehicle. After that, remove the drum retainer clips and pull directly off the rear brake drum from the studs on the wheel. Slide the drum onto the mounting studs, install it on the rear hub and bearing assembly and lastly put the wheel and tire in place. Tighten each wheel mounting stud nut using the proper order until all nuts are tightened to about half the specified setting, then tighten them again to the full specification of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Next, to finish, press the brake pedal as hard as you can for 2 or 3 times.
