2000 Dodge Stratus Wheel Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Wheel Cylinder on 2000 Dodge Stratus?
A: To do maintenance and repairs on the brake wheel cylinder, first take off the brake drums and inspect the wheel cylinder boots for brake fluid, cuts, tears or cracks; if you find something, clean and examine the wheel cylinders and add or change whatever parts are necessary. Should there be a brake leak, remove the shoes and check for signs of grease or brake fluid; if they're soiled, swap them out. Pull the rear brake flex hose tube out of the wheel cylinder and remove the bracket that was holding the flex hose to the brake support plate. After that, loosen the attaching bolts at the rear wheel cylinder and slide the whole assembly away from the brake support plate. When mounting the wheel cylinder, apply a small amount of silicone sealer along the edge of the wheel cylinder that faces the brake support plate, put the wheel cylinder over the support plate and tighten the bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.). Push the hydraulic brake hose tube onto the wheel cylinder and secure it with enough torque, 17 Nm (145 inch lbs.). Place the brake shoes on the support plate and then install the rear brake drum onto the rear hub. Following that, fit the mounted wheel and tire, tightening the wheel nuts one by one, first to half of the standard torque, then further to the full 129 Nm (95 ft. lbs.) specification. Bleed every part of the brake system and adjust the rear brakes as you think best.
