  A: Do not start any work or diagnosis on the vehicle's steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel without first taking precautions to prevent air bag deployment and avoid injury. The first step is to cut off the battery negative cable from its battery contact. From the dashboard, open the glove box panel, remove it completely and then unplug the two halves of the heater-A/C vacuum harness connector. Pull out the center bezel from the instrument panel and pull on the vacuum harness push-in retainer found directly below the heater-A/C control. Following that, detach the heater-A/C control from the instrument panel by unscrewing the four screws, then pull it free to get to the connections behind it. Lift the wire harness at the back of the heater-A/C control and use your hand to push the heater-A/C control half of the vacuum harness forward and over any bumps. After plugging wire harness connectors in the back of the heater-A/C control, use the vacuum harness to pass through the instrument opening and attach the vacuum harness push-in retainer. Bring the two parts of the heater-A/C vacuum harness connector together inside the glove box opening, roll up the box, keep the heater A/C controls in place and secure them with four screws tightened to 2.2 Newtons (20 inch lbs.). In the end, place the center bezel into its place and attach the negative cable to the battery.
