2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Duct Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Repair an Air Duct System on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before servicing or repairing the air duct system, you should first take the instrument panel assembly off the car. After that, remove the three screws holding the defroster duct to the housing of the HVAC unit and pull out the duct. When installing, unscrew the camera from the back, then fasten the mounting screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Remove the instrument panel's top pad, unsnap the duct extensions from the structure duct assembly and then take out the duct extensions. Headrest ducts are secured using the screw on the driver's side under the knee blocker panel, but the screw for the passenger side is under the panel in the middle of the instrument panel. Open the screw that's securing the floor duct(s) to the housing, then go in reverse order of assembly and tighten the screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Pull the knee blocker panels away and lift the carpeting on the floor to take out the ducts from the HVAC housing, as damaged ducts stuck to the carpeting must be changed as a unit. Once you're done with all the switches, remove the instrument panel top pad, remove the screws holding the outlets from the back of the top pad and remove the outlets. Unscrew the mounting screws as you remove the system by hand, then gently tighten them to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.).
