2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair an Alternator on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To maintain or repair the alternator properly, always remove the negative battery cable. Take off the generator drive belt, then unfasten the cable protector cover from the stud near the B+ connector and separate the 2-wire field connector at the generator rear. Once the oil is drained and the filter is changed, get rid of the mounting bolts and remove the generator from your vehicle. Set the generator in place by its engine connection, fit the mounting bolts and tighten the bolts of the generator to 56 Nm and the B+ terminal nut to 11 Nm. Close the 2-wire field connector against the rear of the generator and use the cable protector cover to attach to the B+ mounting stud. Don't push a screwdriver over the pulley to tighten a tensioner and keep the serpentine accessory drive belt in the right guide to avoid heat in the engine. After that, slide the drive belt onto the generator and secure it and also attach the battery cable back to the negative terminal.
