2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: First, unconnect and block the car's negative battery cable and then lift and support the vehicle before servicing the starter motor. Unscrew the screw found under the housing where the starter motor attaches to the converter and while holding the starter upright, remove the swing arm bracket. Pull down the starter motor a little so that you can reach and remove the nut connecting the wire from the battery to the solenoid terminal, keeping the starter motor from hanging by the wire harness. Unplug the solenoid terminal wire harness connector at where it joins with the starter solenoid and remove the battery cable eyelet from its mounting at the solenoid battery terminal. After taking the old starter out, place the new one in the engine and join the existing wires to the solenoid terminal connector. Insert the battery cable eyelet into the solenoid battery terminal and tighten the nut to make sure the starter motor is in place, 11.3 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Assemble the starter motor ahead of the automatic transmission torque converter housing and set in the mounting screws but do not tighten them yet. Secure the lower bracket screw with 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and tighten the upper screw with 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Drop the lift and at the end, reconnect the battery's negative cable.
