2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Alternator on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Always begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable when you work on the alternator for your safety and to prevent any electrical damage. Follow the Cooling System instructions to take out the generator drive belt. Untie the cable protector cover from the B+ mounting stud and unplug the 2-wire field connector at the generator's rear. After that, remove the bolts securing the generator to the vehicle and get the generator out. When attaching the kits, first position the generator next to the engine and install the mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.) and tighten the B+ terminal nut to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.). Ease the 2-wire field connector into the rear of the generator and then fix the cable cover to the B+ mounting stud. A screwdriver should never be used to pry a belt over the fitted knife edge on the pulley to prevent harming the belt. Correctly position the serpentine accessory drive belt since the water pump will not rotate properly, resulting in the engine getting overheated. After that, put on the generator drive belt and secure the negative side of the battery cable.
