2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair an Evaporator on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To work on the evaporator core, remember to follow safety procedures to prevent air bag problems in vehicles with air bags. Take out the heater-A/C housing from the car and set it down on a workbench. Release the defroster duct and the defrost door linkage from the top part of the housing to facilitate splitting them. Take off the screws and hooks that link the upper and lower heater-A/C parts and after that, remove the top part. Take the evaporator coil unit out of the basic heater-A/C housing. For installation, remove the evaporator foam insulator wrap and remove each door pivot pin from the heater-A/C housing, aligning them with the pivot holes as you install the evaporator foam insulator wrap and put the door pivot pin back in. Make sure to tighten the heater-A/C housing screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). If you change the evaporator, you should add 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil to the whole system.
