2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: First, you should disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing and repairing the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley. Unbuckle the serpentine drive belt and the fan shroud and then soften and wiggle the retaining bolt out along with the damper washer. To take off the damper, apply Vibration Damper Removal Tool 7697 to its connection with the crankshaft. Prior to installation, put Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant in the keyway of the crankshaft, then insert the tube key. Combine the crankshaft key and keyway on the vibration damper hub and gently tap the damper onto the crankshaft. Put the vibration damper retaining bolt and the washer in place and fasten it so the torque measures 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). After that, replace the serpentine drive belt and secure the negative cable to the battery again.
