2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before working on the harmonic balancer or crankshaft pulley, loosen and remove the negative cable from the battery. Pull off the drive belt and unclamp the fan cover, next take out the vibration damper's retaining bolt and its washer. Pull off the vibration damper with Vibration Damper Removal Tool 7697. When assembling, put Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant into the keyway in the crankshaft and use the key. Place the key of the vibration damper hub over the crankshaft key and firmly but gently drop the damper onto the longer crank shaft. Replace the vibration damper retaining bolt and washer, then tighten it to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) torque. After that, put on the serpentine drive belt and fan shroud and join the negative cable back to the battery.
