2000 Jeep Wrangler Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal with the Timing Case Cover Installed on 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before starting the process with the timing case cover on, remove the battery's negative cable, the serpentine drive belt, the vibration damper and the radiator shroud. Make sure to clean the seal bore as you extract the seal from the root. While installing, set the replacement oil seal on Timing Case Cover Alignment and Seal Installation Tool 6139 with its open end pointing inward, cover the outside diameter of the seal with a light coating of Perfect Seal or similar and apply a small amount of engine oil to the crankshaft. Slide the seal into place on the crankshaft end, fit a draw screw tool into Seal Installation Tool 6139 and tighten the nut. Once you have removed the tools, add a gentle layer of engine oil to the vibration damper hub that the seal touches. Put Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant onto the keyway in the crankshaft, then fit the key into place. Once you have put the key in place, set the vibration damper and washer over the stud and screw on the bolt, greasing it until it reaches 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) of force. Afterward, set the serpentine belt at the correct tension, put the radiator shroud back on and link the battery's negative cable to the car.
